About WJU 2016-17

Wheeling Jesuit University, the only Catholic institution of higher learning in West Virginia, is part of a 476-year tradition of Jesuit educational excellence that prepares students for deep thinking in a moral context about important topics that impact their lives and their world. The experiences WJU students gain help prepare them for their life's work in boardrooms and classrooms, medical centers and center stage, laboratories and labor relations – in each situation making a difference in the world in which we live.

U.S. News and World Report ranks WJU among the best in the nation. For the past decade, Wheeling Jesuit students have achieved nearly 100 percent acceptance rates for graduate programs in medicine, dentistry, law and engineering. And again this past academic year, 100 percent of WJU students passed their certification boards in nursing, respiratory therapy, athletic training and physical therapy; and 100 percent of Wheeling Jesuit students who applied, were accepted into law school.

With 47 programs of study, Wheeling Jesuit University is a national leader in undergraduate research. With a 10:1 student/faculty ratio, WJU students are twice as likely to participate in research with their professors as their peers at other colleges. WJU research partners and programs include National Institute of Health, NASA, Appalachian Institute and the Challenger Learning Center.

In addition, Wheeling Jesuit was named to the 2015 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll by the Corporation for National and Community Service. This honor recognizes the university as a national leader among institutions of higher education for its support of volunteering, service-learning and civic engagement.

Wheeling Jesuit University is a proud Division II member of the NCAA. WJU has won 65 conference championships and has more than 50 academic All-Americans. The 2015 Volleyball team captured the universities first team National Championship. The Cardinals of WJU offer 20 NCAA Division II athletic teams and a USA Division 1A Rugby program.
